December 6, 2024: The World Bank Group announced a record $23.7 billion replenishment of the International Development Association (IDA)—a landmark for global development. The Bank also introduced a simpler, faster, and more agile IDA, halving policy commitments and metrics to give clients more freedom to shape their priorities.

Despite fiscal pressures, donor countries demonstrated resolve to support the world’s poorest nations. Seventeen donors increased contributions by over 25%, with ten boosting commitments by 40% or more. IDA’s hybrid model leveraged donor and market funds, multiplying contributions fourfold and mobilizing $100 billion in grants and low-interest loans for the countries most in need.

IDA21 (July 2025–June 2028) will help transform the lives of hundreds of millions of people. It will drive progress toward the World Bank’s 2030 goals: delivering electricity to 300 million people in Africa (in partnership with the African Development Bank), improving health for 1.5 billion people, and strengthening safety nets for 500 million people facing recurring shocks. IDA will also advance gender equality and channel 45% of resources to climate finance.
